Press and media guidelines

Eligibility. Accreditation is available to:

• Journalists (print, online, and broadcast media) with a verifiable editorial role and a demonstrated focus on liver disease, healthcare, or related medical topics.
• Freelance journalists with proof of recent, relevant work in liver disease or healthcare coverage.
• Bloggers and influencers with a significant following in medical and scientific fields, particularly in hepatology or related health areas.

Accreditation is not available to industry representatives, PR professionals or marketing personnel; publishers, sales or advertising personnel; or representatives of sponsors or exhibitors.

Application process. Media representatives must apply for press credentials by submitting a valid press card or letter of assignment from an editor — business cards and membership cards are not accepted — and:

• Print journalists: two recent bylined medical or science articles.
• Broadcast journalists: links to two broadcast programmes you have worked on with your name mentioned, or a piece to camera.
• Bloggers: links to two relevant blog posts. This category is marked on the quality and relevance of the links provided; being published on a blog does not automatically grant accreditation.

EASL reserves the right to approve or deny applications at its discretion.

Press registration is free and includes:

• Access to all scientific sessions
• Access to exhibition halls (filming and photography forbidden)
• Access to the Congress venue one day prior to the start of Congress
• Press working area with WiFi and printer
• Attendance at press conferences, when applicable
• Access to press releases
• Interviews arranged with EASL spokespersons upon request

By submitting an abstract to EASL Congress, you agree to abide by this embargo policy. The policy states that authors, presenters and/or their sponsors may not share data or key results from the abstract in any form (print, broadcast or online publication, media release or congress presentation) until this embargo is lifted. Authors, presenters and/or their sponsors may, however, publicise the fact that their abstract has been selected for inclusion in the congress programme before the abstract is officially released. In this context, they may publish the title of their abstract together with the names of the authors and institutions.

Embargos according to the category of submission

A detailed breakdown of the embargo policies for different types of abstracts is available below. All congress delegates, presenters, industry employees, sponsors, and media agree to respect this policy when submitting their abstracts or registering for the event.

1. Accepted abstracts selected for the following sessions should not be disclosed before the start of EASL Congress 2027 at 8:00 CEST on Wednesday, 16 June 2027 (the opening day of the congress). Authors will be informed during the abstract notification process if their abstract has been selected for one of these sessions.

• General Session I
• General Session II
• Late-breaker Session

1. EASL Congress Late-breaker abstracts (poster presentations only): Data from abstracts submitted during the late-breaker submission period and which have been selected for poster presentation may not be disclosed before the start of EASL Congress 2027 at 8:00 CEST on Wednesday, 16 June 2027 (the opening day of the congress).
2. Accepted abstracts selected for the following sessions should not be disclosed before 8:00 CEST on Wednesday, 2 June 2027 (i.e. two weeks before the start of the congress).

• Oral sessions(excluding General Session I, General Session II, Late-breaker Session, or pre-selected abstracts for potential inclusion in an EASL Congress press release)
• Poster sessions(excluding pre-selected abstracts for potential inclusion in an EASL Congress press release and late-breaker)

Note: All presentations may not be disclosed before the start time of their presentation in the official programme. Posters and ePosters may not be disclosed before 8:00 CEST on Wednesday, 16 June 2027 (the first day of the congress).

Embargo breaks

Examples of breaking the embargo include publishing data from the abstract in a journal or via a public outlet before the abstract is presented at the congress. Violation of the embargo policy above will be taken seriously. Individuals and/or sponsors who violate it may face sanctions relating to current and future abstract submissions, presentations, and visibility at EASL events. The EASL Governing Board is at liberty to ban attendance and/or retract data.

General rules

• Photography, video, and audio recordings are strictly forbidden during scientific sessions, in the exhibition area, and in the poster area, unless authorised by EASL.
• Scientific slides, session recordings, and speaker presentations are copyrighted materials and cannot be reproduced without the author’s written consent.
• EASL will provide official images and footage for media use.
• EASL reserves the right to revoke media access for any unauthorised use of content.

Special permissions

• Media representatives wishing to conduct interviews or film outside designated press areas must obtain prior approval from the EASL Press Office.
• Recorded content must credit EASL Congress 2027 and cannot be used for commercial purposes.

EASL encourages live coverage of the congress via social media while respecting embargo policies and privacy rights.

Allowed

• Posting summaries, quotes, and non-embargoed content.
• Sharing EASL official social media updates.

Not allowed

• Live streaming or real-time broadcasting of sessions.
• Posting embargoed content before the embargo lifts.
• Sharing confidential or unpublished research data.

Sponsored press conferences

• Third parties (for example industry sponsors, exhibitors) must request approval from EASL for any press conference or media event.
• These events cannot be scheduled during official congress scientific sessions.

Use of EASL branding

• EASL logos and trademarks cannot be used in third-party materials without prior written permission.

Violation of EASL’s press and media policies may result in:

• Immediate revocation of press credentials.
• Exclusion from the EASL Congress and future events.
• Public disclosure of embargo breaches.
